I love the colours of Autumn but I think I'm a summer girl at heart.  Probably the long light days and getting up very early to sunlight.  The studio is so much better with natural light to work in.  When I painted my Greek Summer pattern I obviously had that season in my mind even using blues as the main colour and it's available in many forms on Redbubble.  What's you favourite season? So the travels continue and from Iban culture and its people to the world of bees with this new developing idea I'm toying with.  Their wings are so delicate and bodies so strong ..... wonderful.  I wanted a sharp contrast to the natural elements of the bees and went for striking orange and a triangle.  Perhaps I'll make the triangles solid .....  you'll be able to see if you pop to society6

Does anyone else think that ikat influenced pattern have a bohemian feel to them?  Perhaps it's something to do with where they traditionally started from such as South America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East - all countries with strong traditions in textiles and pattern.  My ikat range of over 5 co-ordinated patterns are available on society6 and I've highlighted this ikat hearts wall clock as an example.

Scale & Paisley Heart Pattern

Something I always struggle with once I've drawn up my idea, scanned it and started to repeat it, is what scale should it be?  For me, I usually end up printing it out just to confirm that I've got it at the scale I want - it's so easy to get it wrong just using your screen as a measurement.  I'm lucky to have a bigger screen to work on as some of my designs are full scale king size duvet designs.  I think it helped my last client as she was judging pattern size and lettering on her screen until I suggested doing a print out at home on her printer and it worked.  This play with scale is a heart shaped floral pattern I created as part of a paisley set for some new zazzle products.

Spring Is Here

Vintage Floral Ranges

Hello Spring!!  And what an array of events too!  First we had the solar eclipse and amazingly for Scotland, it was a lovely bright day so I was able to watch the whole event from my back garden (all be it from the dining room window).  Then there's the supermoon.  And finally on Saturday the 21st March, it's the spring equinox.  I even considered cutting the grass today but the Scottish sun didn't last too long.  To celebrate I've used one of my vintage floral patterns to welcome warmer weather and lovely flowers starting to peek through the back garden!

Sometimes just changing a few accessories in your lounge or living room can make such a difference. I'm really enjoying designing these new throw pillows (or is it throw cushions?) for zazzle. It's great being able to go from a geometric cushion to a soft floral pillow pattern.
