Trip To Inverness

It's wearing well, considering the Inverness weather!  Mike describes the commission as the Crown Road Wall Installation - a visual narrative exploring Scottish beliefs systems and highland myths. This 65 metre long and 5 metre high wall based narrative took the better part of 1 year to complete from initial conversations through research trips to the artworks creation and finally installation in Inverness city centre. many people, many conversations, many cups of coffee and a few pints of highland honey ale went into the creation this work commissioned by Inverness Old Town Art and funded by Highland Council.   Great piece of work and glad I managed to find it this time!

About Diane  "For me, hair represents humanity and is a rich material thick with history, genetics and societal taboos. I use hair in the form of hairballs, locks, sewing thread, matting, and weaving fiber.

In 1993 I shaved my head and began saving my hair. This daily ritual of rolling a hairball in the shower to later be used in my art is one way I weave my art and the everyday together. My creative process helps me understand the complexities, contradictions and injustices of the world we live in today."

What a wonderfully atmospheric piece - it's almost like a drawing and I wondered if that's where the inspiration came from for this work. Not sure who the artist is .....

I found out!  Great work Linnie - it is, as you said, Japanese artist Chiharu Shiota who was born in Osaka, Japan and now lives and works in Berlin.  Her website is well worth a visit.

American artist Kathy Miller spent many hours as a child observing her father and her grandfather; she learned how things were designed and constructed at an early age. Miller studied art and architecture in high school and college; co-founded a pattern company; worked as a draftsman; created architectural renderings; and worked as a graphic artist. It is this background, as a child and an adult, that influences her work, which takes its initial inspiration from line.
