Journey of a Still Life

And now for colour, building up the background and bringing out the silhouette shapes of the water jug and Pegasus.  It's just about there so I'm hoping that my client can get me a picture of it hung.  She says she has the exact spot for it.

Journey Of A Still Life - Part 2

My early influences at art school were Alberto Morrocco and my tutor James Morrison.  But back to the journey.  Pattern and colour are a big part of my client's life, also ceramics she had created as well as her partner's favourite item - Pegasus........  and so it continues to develop. Note to self : must try and take better pics as I go along!

Journey Of A Still Life

Always enjoyed working on large canvases so when I was asked do a commission of a still life using their favourite possessions it took me back to my early days at art college.  Once I had gathered all the references and drew up the composition, I decided to go with the natural colour of the canvas which is not how we were taught to begin a painting (normally the tutors would get us to lose the colour with a wash of a grey, darker tone) but it just felt right.  And so it began .........

Greek Summer Throw Cushion

Throw Pillow : Greek Summer
I love the colours of Autumn but I think I'm a summer girl at heart.  Probably the long light days and getting up very early to sunlight.  The studio is so much better with natural light to work in.  When I painted my Greek Summer pattern I obviously had that season in my mind even using blues as the main colour and it's available in many forms on Redbubble.  What's you favourite season? Here's 14 reasons to enjoy summer

Paris Shopping Trip Pattern

Following a shopping trip and break to Paris I took the drawings I'd been working on in my sketchbook - from designer shoes and bags to French cars from passport to sunglasses and created this fun kitsch conversational pattern.  Vive La Paris!  Another version made its way to Society6 in all manor of accessories and prints.

NEW GEOMETRIC PATTERN

Third in the series of five - 'navy octangle' and still enjoying the balance and repetition of creating a geometric pattern.  I'm sure there are quicker ways of creating them but I still use old school fine line pens, square paper and the obligatory ruler.  Soon to be seen in 'zazzle'
